About Us
North Star ESG Advisory was founded by Philip Hyland, a climate and sustainability professional with over 20 years’ experience across infrastructure, strategy, and public policy. The consultancy was established to provide credible, flexible ESG support to organisations aiming to accelerate their sustainability journey — particularly those without the resources for a full-time sustainability hire.
Philip brings a unique combination of commercial, operational, and ESG expertise, having developed science-based targets and decarbonisation strategies for large organisations across sectors including tourism, hospitality, infrastructure, and the public sector. He has led the preparation of submissions to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), developed net zero roadmaps aligned with national climate goals, and supported companies in delivering Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions reductions.
Holding postgraduate qualifications in Climate Change and in Life Cycle Assessment and Carbon Accounting, Philip helps organisations understand their carbon impact, manage climate-related risks, and align with emerging regulatory frameworks including SBTi, CSRD, and ACA.
